The lefty SG with its twin humbucker pickups is one of Gibson's best selling left handed guitars. The image and appeal to mainly rock and metal guitarists is addictive.

The current models, take everything that make the 1961 Gibson SG great and makes it durable enough for today's left handed axemen. The neck now is longer and feels a lot firmer and more stable and plays like a dream, allowing long and raking solo runs effortlessly, together with rasping dirty rythym.

The thinner body makes it lighter than the Left Handed Gibson Les Paul, without sacrificing any of the famous Gibson sustain and the cutaways make it much easier to reach those top frets. This means that it is a much more realistic proposition for the up and coming intermeadiate guitarist.

Whilst I would say that beginners would find this guitar absolutely fine and would in fact help their action superbly, it is still a major investment at around at least $1,200 dollars a pop. The twin original 490 series humbuckers still hold their own comfortably, giving a range of sweet soaring tones, through to down right nasty, but controlled sustain for rythym. But as easily as it handles rock and metal, it offers much more than that to the left handed guitarist, being more than capable and sounding suited to jazz and blues of all sorts.
